What is Dr. Seuss Day?

Dr. Seuss Day, on March 2nd, honors the imaginative and creative legacy of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. This beloved children’s author and illustrator captivates kids and helps them to fall in love with reading with whimsical tales, silly rhymes, and colorful characters to this day. Each year, we remember his birthday and the impact he has had and continues to have on children’s literature.

Celebrating Dr. Seuss Day with your students is a wonderful way to inspire them to fall in love with the character in his stories and the magical places books can take you while building a strong foundation for early literacy. Dr. Seuss’s books are filled with other practical lessons about friendship, growing up, and caring for others too.

By incorporating Dr. Seuss into your lesson plans, you can engage your students in a fun and interactive experience that will help them to develop print awareness, reading skills, a better understanding of rhyme, critical thinking skills, empathy, and even cultural appreciation. It’s an opportunity to celebrate diversity and encourage inclusion and acceptance. Ultimately, celebrating Dr. Seuss Day together is a fun and joyful way to learn together.
