Halloween Math Activity: Candy Corn Counting Fangs

Halloween Counting Activity for Preschool and Kindergarten
Hands-on counting activities are a fun way to help little learners practice important early math skills. Instead of simply counting pictures on a worksheet, students get to physically add each candy corn fang to the vampire’s mouth.
This gives kids practice with one-to-one correspondence as they count while also connecting each quantity to its numeral. Then, they can practice writing the number at the bottom of the mat.

Candy Corn Counting Activity Supplies
You don’t need much to set up this Halloween math center. Gather:
- Counting Fangs printable
- Candy corn
- Laminating sheets or dry erase pocket
- Dry erase marker
- Scissors
I recommend laminating the counting mat and number cards so you can reuse this activity with multiple students throughout October.
How to Use This Halloween Math Activity
Once you’ve gathered your supplies, you’re ready to count some vampire fangs!
Step 1: Print the Halloween Counting Mat
Print the vampire Counting Fangs mat and number cards. Laminate the pages or place the counting mat inside a dry erase pocket if you’d like to reuse it.
Step 2: Choose a Number
Have students choose one of the number cards and identify the numeral.
You can begin with smaller numbers for preschool students and work your way up as their counting skills grow.
Step 3: Build the Vampire’s Fangs
Now for the fun part!
Students will count out the correct number of candy corn pieces and place them inside the vampire’s mouth to give him fangs.
For example, if they choose the number 7, they’ll add seven candy corn fangs to the vampire.
This simple candy corn counting activity gives students hands-on practice counting objects and matching quantities to numerals.
Step 4: Write the Number
After building the vampire’s fangs, students can practice writing the number on the lines at the bottom of the mat.
Then clear the vampire’s mouth, choose another number card, and play again!
