Creative Math Ideas for St. Patrick’s Day
There are so many hands-on creative math ideas for St. Patrick’s Day lesson plans! Check out some of my favorite math activity ideas for celebrating with the luck of the Irish:
Shamrock Counting
Cut out shamrock shapes from green construction paper. You can use my shamrock template to make it easy. Number each shamrock and scatter them around the room.
Then, have kids search for shamrocks. When the shamrocks have all been found, arrange them in numerical order together as a class.
Pot of Gold Number Matching
You’ll need “pots of gold” and golden coins for this activity. Write numbers on the pots with a permanent marker. Then, add the corresponding number of dots to the gold coins.
Have students match the coins to the dots based on the numbers. It’s a great way to practice counting and number recognition skills. Create stations around the classroom to make this math idea for St. Patrick’s Day into an engaging movement activity!
Leprechaun Hats Measurement
First, cut out leprechaun hats from construction paper. Then, give each preschool student a ruler or non-standard measurement tool. Finally, have kids take turns measuring and comparing the height of each leprechaun hat.
St. Patrick’s Day Bracelet Craft
Bead threading is excellent for fine motor skills practice. You can use beads to practice counting and patterns too. Give each preschooler a pipe cleaner and green, yellow, and orange beads.
Have children thread the beads onto the pipe cleaners creating their own unique St. Patrick’s Day bracelet patterns along the way. This math idea for St. Patrick’s Day will create a unique keepsake for your children.
