Why Is Preschool Science Important?

Science in preschool isn’t about memorizing facts and theories. Instead, it’s all about discovery! Preschoolers discover and learn important things about science and the world around them through observation and experimentation.

The very best way for preschoolers to learn these concepts is through open-ended play. We can facilitate even more opportunities for preschoolers to learn about science with fun science activities and experiments for kids.

After all, science is all about connecting your child to the world around them. While they’re young, it’s important to encourage our preschoolers to explore, be curious, and ask lots of questions. Doing science experiments with your preschoolers is a fun and easy way to encourage their curiosity and get them to ask lots of questions too!

Record the results on the differentiated worksheets included in this printable hot chocolate science experiment.

Edible Hot Chocolate Slime

Slime is tons of fun for kids of all ages! This winter, try making some edible hot chocolate slime with your preschoolers. Slime is a great sensory learning experience for your preschool science center.

To get started, you’ll need a cup of cold water, ½ cup (about two packages) of hot chocolate mix, and one tablespoon of Metamucil or psyllium based fiber powder. In a large bowl, combine and mix all the ingredients.

Then, microwave for 4 minutes, removing to stir the mix after two minutes. Once your hot chocolate slime is cooled, it’s ready for preschoolers to explore and experiment with in the classroom and at home all winter long.
