Disguise a Ghost Project for Preschool and Kindergarten
Looking for a fun Disguise a Ghost project for Halloween? This ghost in disguise craft is a creative way to bring costumes, storytelling, and hands-on learning into your preschool or kindergarten classroom. Students get to turn a plain ghost into a character in disguise, and the finished projects make an adorable October bulletin board!

Disguise a Ghost Halloween Craft
The idea is simple: your ghost needs a disguise! Children can choose a costume, cut out the pieces, and decorate their ghost to create a one-of-a-kind Halloween character. It’s an easy activity to use during a Halloween classroom celebration, a craft center, or a family project sent home in October.
Ghost in Disguise Ideas
Invite children to imagine who their ghost could pretend to be. They might choose a favorite character, a community helper, an animal, or another creative costume. Encourage students to explain how their disguise will help the ghost blend in. A simple question like “How will your ghost avoid being recognized?” can spark some wonderful conversations.

Printable Disguise a Ghost Templates
My Disguise a Ghost printable craft includes seven cut-and-paste disguises, three writing templates, wanted posters for the costumes and a blank version, plus a Ghost in Disguise emergent reader. Color and black-and-white options make it easy to choose the version that works best for your class.
How to Make a Ghost in Disguise Craft
Start by introducing the project and showing children how the ghost can be transformed with costume pieces. Let each child choose a disguise, color the pieces if using the black-and-white version, and carefully cut and glue the costume onto the ghost. Older students can add their own details or design a unique costume.

Once the crafts are finished, ask children to tell a partner about their ghosts. Who are they pretending to be? Why did they choose that disguise? What makes the costume convincing?
Add Halloween Writing and Reading
This project can be more than a craft. Pair the finished ghosts with a writing response so students can explain their costume choices. Preschoolers can dictate a sentence or draw a picture, while kindergarten and first-grade students can write a few words or sentences about their disguises. The included emergent reader is another way to extend the Halloween fun into literacy time.
A Ghost in Disguise Bulletin Board
One of my favorite ways to display this activity is to turn the classroom bulletin board into a collection of disguised ghosts. Add the wanted posters beside the crafts and let students guess who’s hiding behind each costume. It’s a cute way to celebrate everyone’s creativity and share student work with families.
A Fun Halloween Family Project
Disguise a Ghost also works as a take-home family project. Send home the ghost and costume pieces, then invite families to work together to create a disguise. When the projects return to school, children can show their ghosts to classmates and talk about the costumes they made.
